Artist's Statement
Everyone, child or adult, is an individual, a unique person with his own way of seeing the world and relating to it. Portraiture is intensely fascinating to me because of my firm belief in the integrity of the individual at any age. All through life, the qualities that make an individual what he is are evident. I respect and admire those things that make us ourselves.
My goal as a portrait artist is not only to produce a good likeness, but to produce a work of art that sings the subject’s own song; not just a picture, but a celebration of the person.
About the Artist
Leila Ashton’s portraits are currently held in numerous collections throughout the Southeast and from coast to coast. An accomplished artist as a teenager, she continued to study art and produce art alongside her career as a music teacher. She was able to make the career change to full-time portrait artist nearly 30 years ago. In national and international juried art exhibitions, Leila Ashton has twice been a finalist in the Portrait Society of America’s ‘Members Only’ Competition. She has received First Place and Exceptional Merit Awards in exhibitions of the Portrait Society of Atlanta and the Southeastern Pastel Society, and has received awards in the exhibitions of several other arts organizations. However, to give delight and pleasure to a client by painting a beautiful fine art portrait is the greatest reward for her work. It is work she loves to do.
